Events in WeGive let you collect registrations and donations for both virtual and in-person gatherings. This guide walks you through creating an event and configuring every setting available in the event Settings panel.

Step 1: Create Your Event

  1. From the Events section, click to create a new event. The Create Event modal will open.

  2. Fill in the required details:

    • Event Name — Enter the public name of your event.

    • Giving Checkout — Search for and select the checkout used to process event donations. The checkout is not used for registrations or ticket purchases, but for additional donations collected from the event.

    • Start Date & Time — Select when your event begins.

    • End Date & Time — Select when your event ends.

    • Timezone — Choose the event's timezone (e.g., Central Time (CT)).

  3. Choose a Location Type:

    • Virtual — For online events. Guests are sent to an online event URL.

    • In Person — For venue-based events. Collect registrations for a physical location.

  4. Enter location details based on your choice:

    • If Virtual: Add the Event URL (e.g., https://example.com/event).

    • If In Person: Enter the Street Address, City, State, Zip, and Country.

  5. Click Create Event.

Once created, your event opens with three tabs: Overview, Performance, and Settings. A status badge (e.g., Live) appears next to the event name, along with quick-copy chips for ID, Event URL, Registration URL, and CRM ID.

Tip: Use the Implement button (top right) to add the event to your site, and the Archive button to retire an event when it's over.

Tips & Best Practices

  • Set up your checkout first — Events require a Giving Checkout to process payments.

  • Use Max Capacity for limited-space events — Enforce a hard cap regardless of ticket types.

  • Enable fee cover to help offset processing costs by letting supporters opt in.

  • Add custom questions to capture attendee info and map it directly to your CRM.

  • Preview before going live — Review the registration flow using your event URL before sharing widely.
